In May of 2007, the Canadian Fraternal Association visited St. John’s Newfoundland for its Annual General Meeting.  11 of the 19 registered Societies were in attendance, as well as many guests, including Janice Whipple of the National Fraternal Congress of America and Harry Arjoon of the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions.

Once again the event was a rousing success, in large part due to the talents and antics of comedienne Amy House, as she wandered through the event making sure that everyone was touched by her wit and charm.

The CFA delegates were treated to an outstanding marketing presentation by Mr. Ken Wong, Associate Professor of Business and Marketing Strategy at Queen’s University School of Business in Kingston, Ont., along with many other quality presentations.

To top off our Saturday evening banquet, Ms. House and a troupe of outstanding performers from St. John’s put on a terrific variety show for our delegates and visitors.  Outgoing president Mr. Bob Underwood of ACTRA Fraternal Benefit Society presented Ms. House with a cheque for $1250 towards C.A.P.E., the Cultural Assistance Plan for Emergencies, which provides financial assistance for Newfoundland cultural workers coping with severe illness or other catastrophic events in their lives.  These funds were raised during the Canadian Fraternal Association’s annual charity raffle.

Mr. Underwood also presented our first ever “Outstanding Fraternalist” Award to Mr. Mike Bagg of the Toronto Police Widows and Orphans Fund, for his tireless support and dedication to the ideal of the Canadian Fraternal Association.

Our Annual Meeting for 2008 is being held in Quebec City from May 1st-3rd. Check the website regularly for more details.

Hope to see everyone there.
