WHO WE ARE
Standing Together For more than a century, the Canadian Fraternal Association/L’Association Fraternelle Canadienne (CFA-AFC) has been promoting the welfare of fraternal benefit societies in Canada.
As the voice of fraternal organizations with approximately 400,000 Canadian members, the CFA-AFC has kept fraternal interests and concerns before legislators and regulators at all levels of government.
This requires a continuing effort, as fraternal societies are unique. They are organizations operated for the benefit of their members and the communities they serve. Services offered include educational programs, volunteer opportunities and social activities, as well as financial products and services such as insurance, savings and investment vehicles.
The unique fraternal structure enables member societies to make "value added" contributions to their members and their beneficiaries as well as to the communities in which they operate.
Protecting Fraternal Interests Central to the CFA-AFC mandate is ensuring that governments at all levels understand and appreciate the role of fraternal benefit societies. The CFA-AFC works to assist governments in implementing legislation that is appropriate and effective for fraternal benefit societies and all Canadians.
Speaking collectively through their Association, Canada’s fraternals have an influential voice that would not be available to a single society.
Building Awareness The CFA-AFC is also a central gathering point and distribution vehicle for statistics and information about fraternal societies and their caring activities throughout Canada. In addition, it provides a forum for presenting new and vital information that may affect the societies.
The Annual General Meeting provides for a free exchange of ideas amongst fraternals and the election of officers and appointments to various committees such as Legislative and Membership.
The CFA-AFC, over a century old and still thriving!
